Home-based personal trainer jobs

Finding home based personal trainer jobs is a dream of many people who work in the fitness industry. What could be better? No office, no fixed schedule, just lots of clients eager to have you help them get in shape.

But before you get too excited let's look at the reality of home-based personal trainer jobs - you can't simply print a few business cards, buy some dumbbells, and wait for the clients to line up outside your door.

So what does it take to join that exclusive club who have home based personal trainer jobs?

The first requirement is training and qualifications. These days all trainers must possess the minimum of a level 3 NVQ in a personal training - this is the industry standard, and will allow you to register with the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs). Courses such as these are offered by various training providers, and certified by organizations such City and Guilds, Active IQ, OCR, VTCT and CYQ.

Once you are qualified, you need to gain experience - and that means working for someone else for a while. That can be in a small local gym, with a chain such as LA Fitness or Fitness First, or perhaps a spa, resort, or cruise ship.

It is only once you have that magical combination of qualification and experience that you can start to consider that Holy Grail for instructors, the chance to set up your own business as a personal fitness trainer.
