There are plenty of yoga jobs available, but you have to be experienced and qualified to be considered.
Yoga jobs can be found in gyms, health clubs, spas, leisure centres, and through adult community colleges. Yoga jobs will involve working with groups or sometimes individuals, teaching them a variety of positions (asanas), breathing, meditation and visualisation.
If this is of interest to you, the first step is to become experienced as a practitioner. Most courses require that before you can train as an instructor, you have to have acquired a functional knowledge by practising with a qualified teacher, typically for at least a year.
Once you have the necessary experience, you will be eligible to train. There are various providers offering courses, but it is essential that you obtain a nationally recognised yoga teaching qualification - without this no one will hire you.
The two best options for teachers are therefore either a teaching award from the British Wheel of Yoga (BWY), or the CYQ Level 3 Certificate in Teaching Yoga. These are both recognised the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs), and will allow you to teach.
Finally, you will also need to obtain a current first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
Most positions are part time, so this may be something that you combine with another part time job. Hourly rates will vary, but are usually between ?10 -?25 per hour. This is a rewarding career, and for those who are passionate, a chance to work in a field that they love.
