Classroom-based personal trainer courses

For many people, classroom based personal trainer courses are still the preferred option. The option of face to face instruction, and real classmates, is an experience that many people need to enable them to learn properly.

There are other choices these days, with one attractive option being online distance learning courses. These have the advantage of lower costs, and convenience - no time off work.

There are many providers offering classroom based personal trainer courses, so one issue for many people is finding a course that is reputable. This is a business in which qualifications are essential, so a course without a widely recognized qualification is of limited value.

The way to be sure that any course measures up is to look for those that are widely recognised. That means that they are recognized by the main industry professional bodies. The principal ones in the UK include:

  • REPs (The Register of Exercise Professionals)

  • Central YMCA Qualifications (CYQ)

  • Active IQ

  • The National Register of Personal Trainers (NRPT)

For most jobs this means a Level 3 qualification, such as:

  • NVQ Level 3 in Instructing Physical Activity and Exercise (awarded by City and Guilds, Active IQ, OCR, VTCT and CYQ)

  • Level 3 Certificate in Advanced Fitness Instructing (awarded by Active IQ, City & Guilds, CYQ, NCFE, VTCT and OCR)

  • Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training (awarded by Active IQ and CYQ)
    • With the right training, you will soon be on course for an exciting new career in the fitness industry.
